Arithmetic is a really useful subject. Ability to perform operations quickly and without a calculator helps not only in classes, but in everyday life. But getting kids to learn and practice math is not the easiest thing to do. Here is our way to make learning it fun and engaging.
Imagine the world, in which knowledge is power. More specifically, performing arithmetic operations gives you the ability to cast powerful spells. This is the core idea of “Math and Magic”. It is an RPG with turn-based combat and variety of enemies to practice your math skills on.
We are ready to share some of the features of our upcoming game “Math and Magic”. Prepare for the battle of minds!
As arithmetic operations act as spells, it is only natural that mathematical expressions with more operations are more powerful. But this approach does not leave enough room for progression.
Spell improvement added a new dimension to combat system. The higher the level of spell is the larger numbers are.
Power... overwhelming!
It soon became clear, that the easiest way to play is to choose the type of spells you like most and focus on them. But the game was intended to help practice all the arithmetic operations!
The answer was found in system of weaknesses. We already had a few types of enemies with favourite attacks. Now every battle requires careful preparation and adjusted spell set.
Trying to “subtract” a skeleton is not the best idea.
What is the point of power, if you can’t show it to other players? With this in mind we decided to add PvP battles. Real-time fights are not the best choice for mobile apps, so we used asynchronous style. Your enemy doesn’t have to be online for you to battle him.
Yay! I’m almost at the top! Wait, only our testers are online...
